Ten adverse consequences of the prevailing approach to higher education:
- Early frustration and discouragement for kids who are not college-bound
- Competition and exhaustion for kids who are college-bound
- Weakened respect and a shrinking native-born candidate pool for necessary trades and occupations
- High college non-completion rates
- College curricula “dumbed down” to accommodate a large population of poorly-prepared degree aspirants
- College graduates with unrealistic job expectations and poor preparation for the actual job market
- Growth of a native-born workforce that is not globally competitive
- Massive and widespread student educational debt
- Devaluation of bachelor’s degrees, pushing grads toward advanced degrees and additional debt
- Growth of a self-perpetuating education industry involving both educational and lending institutions
